Academician Tao Wenzhao is the leading figure in the Guangdong Branch Laboratory of the Key Laboratory of Thermal Flow Science and Engineering of the Ministry of Education.

Tao Wenzhao, male, was born in Shaoxing, Zhejiang in March 1939. He graduated from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1962. He graduated from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1966 (Professor Yang Shiming), and went to the Heat Transfer Laboratory of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota in 1980-1982 to study under Professor E M Sparrow. He is currently a professor and doctoral tutor at the School of Energy and Power Engineering of Xi'an Jiaotong University. In 2005, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is currently the chairman of the Teaching and Learning Committee of the Thermal Engineering Curriculum of the Ministry of Education, the Vice Chairman of the Teaching Guidance Committee of the Energy Dynamics Department of the Ministry of Education, the Vice Chairman of the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics, and the Vice Chairman of the Heat and Mass Transfer Committee. Xi'an Jiaotong University Editor-in-Chief of the Journal (Natural Science Edition), Associate Editor of the International Journal of Heat Mass Transfer and International Communication in Heat Mass Transfer, International Journal of Thermal Mass Transfer, International Thermal Transfer (A, B) and Progress in Computational Fluid Dynamics Editorial board.

Academic and research achievements


As a well-known expert in international numerical heat transfer, Professor Tao Wenzhao has long been engaged in the teaching and research of heat transfer and its numerical simulation methods and engineering applications, and promoted and promoted the formation and development of computational heat transfer in China. The symbol-invariant principle of format stability and the combined mesh idea of dealing with irregular regions, the new stable discrete equations for convection terms and the fully implicit algorithm for dealing with the coupling relationship between incompressible flow field velocity and pressure are proposed, which improves the calculation accuracy and Convergence rate; in the aspect of enhanced heat transfer, a number of new technologies for efficient heat transfer enhancement have been proposed and developed. Received 1 National Science Conference Award (1978), 2nd Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of Ministry of Power Industry (1996), 1st Prize of China University Science and Technology Progress Award of Ministry of Education (2001), the first national teaching teacher Award (2003), the second prize of the National Natural Science Award (2004), and the National Teaching Achievement Award, 1 first prize, 1 first prize, and 2 second prizes. Published 9 monographs and textbooks. He has published more than 310 research papers: 92 international magazines, 62 international conferences, and 161 important domestic periodicals, of which more than 80 were searched by SCI and more than 150 by EI. The monograph "Numerical Heat Transfer" has been cited more than a thousand times by domestic and international journal articles. He has obtained 4 patents, including two national invention patents. The team of numerical simulation studies on heat transfer and flow of Xi'an Jiaotong University has had an international impact. In the past five years, he has been invited to make six keynote speeches at relevant international academic conferences. The young and middle-aged scholars of the team thrived, one won the National Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award, one won the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, one was the Shaanxi Provincial Teaching Master, and two were the New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education. The team has trained 70 graduate students, 24 of whom have received doctoral degrees and 46 of them have master's degrees. They have long adhered to the first line of undergraduate teaching. In the past 30 years, Professor Tao Wenzhao has established “heat transfer” and “computational fluid dynamics”. The number of lectures in the courses of heat transfer, "numerical heat transfer" and "computation of heat transfer" has reached nearly 4,000, making an important contribution to the cultivation of science and technology backbones in China's energy and power business.
